Eagles running back LeSean McCoy on this week’s Sports Illustrated cover

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy says there is no question that he is the league’s best runner. The numbers would certainly favor McCoy, but he is doing it in ways other running backs of the past haven’t.

McCoy is featured on one of three regional fantasy football-themed Sports Illustrated covers this week (there are four regional covers total).

McCoy led the NFL with 314 carries last season — the lowest total since Earnest Byner of the Washington Redskins led the league with 297 in 1990.

He also led the league in rushing with 1,607 yards, caught 52 passes for 539 yards and scored 11 total touchdowns, earning first team All-Pro honors for the second time in three seasons.

McCoy is ranked the fourth-best fantasy back by SI and credits his offseason training with staying “Shady” and avoiding big hits.

“I don’t see a lot of direct shots. I don’t see a lot of wear and tear, a lot of hits. The small things like that have really helped me out so that I can have a long career,” McCoy said.
